This year we are using GO Math! In 5th grade, we will be using a combination of assignments from the GO Math! book and classroom activities in order to reach mastery. In addition, this page includes YouTube videos and visual aids to reinforce learning at home. There will also be assigned math assignments on Think Central.
CLICK HERE to access the Think Central website. On this site you will find an interactive student workbook, as well as lots of other resources to help with math! If you do not know your user name or password, please email your teacher!
To help you get setup, please follow these instructions:
Country: United States
State: Utah
District: State Operated School
School: Endeavor Hall Charter School, W Valley City 84119
You then have an option to remember the school. Under all of this information is the student user name and password section.

Assignments:
Mrs. Jones & Ms. Fox
Students are going to be working on 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, and the Mid-Chapter Checkpoint this week (April 20-24). There are videos attached to the modules on Canvas for these lessons. Please submit ONLY the Practice and Homework pages for lessons 8.2, 8.3, and 8.4. Submit both pages for the Mid-Chapter Checkpoint for Chapter 8. Have your child use the videos on ThinkCentral for extra help with 8.2 and 8.4. Here are videos for lesson 8.3. 8.3 Video 1 https://youtu.be/-v6wC-hSgwk 8.3 Video 2 https://youtu.be/p_tXoGN2uMI 8.3 Video 3 https://youtu.be/NDvw7vpLoxo Helps: If your child is still struggling with a concept after watching the videos for that lesson on Canvas, they may use ThinkCentral (which has videos for each lesson). If you need help accessing ThinkCentral, please contact Mrs. Jones at [email protected]. She will help you get to the videos. There are also videos available on Khan Academy. Every fifth grader has an account on Khan Academy (contact Mrs. Jones if you need the login for that). You’ll go to khanacademy.org. Click on login at the top on the right-hand side. Then, you’ll be asked for the username and password. Once that is typed in, there are videos available with quick checks of the concepts we’ve covered in math. Mathematical Practices: 1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. 4. Model with mathematics. 5. Use appropriate tools strategically. 6. Attend to precision. 7. Look for and make use of structure. 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. |
Just a quick note-these aren't links. Go to the link above to ThinkCentral for the videos and math book to help with these assignments.

Online Quizzes and Assessments:
Students will have assignments on Think Central as well as Khan Academy to work on.
Strand: NUMBER AND OPERATIONS - FRACTIONS (5.NF)
Use equivalent fractions as a strategy to add and subtract fractions (Standards 5.NF.1–2). Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to multiply and divide fractions (Standards 5.NF.3–7).
Standard 5.NF.1
Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators.
Standard 5.NF.2
Solve real-world problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole, including cases of unlike denominators by, for example, using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. Use benchmark fractions and number sense of fractions to estimate mentally and assess the reasonableness of answers.
Standard 5.NF.3
Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (a/b = a ÷ b). Solve real-world problems involving division of whole numbers leading to answers in the form of fractions or mixed numbers, through the use of visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem.
Standard 5.NF.4
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction.
Standard 5.NF.5
Interpret multiplication as scaling.
Standard 5.NF.6
Solve real-world problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers, for example, by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem.
Standard 5.NF.7
Apply and extend previous understandings of division to divide unit fractions by whole numbers and whole numbers by unit fractions. Use strategies to divide fractions by reasoning about the relationship between multiplication and division. Division of a fraction by a fraction is not a requirement at this grade.

Visual Helps:
Butterfly Method for Adding and Subtracting Fractions:
Step 1: Draw the wings Step 2: Add antennae Step 3: Add the bottom Step 4: Multply diagonally across each wing, and put the answer in the antennae above Step 5: Multiply the two bottom numbers, and place the answer in the bottom. Step 6: The numbers in the antennae become the numerators, and the number in the bottom is the common denominator. Step 7: Add or subtract using the new fractions. |
